The Ausangate Trek 5 Days / 4 Nights is one of the most spectacular and challenging trekking routes in Peru, perfect for adventure lovers seeking untouched nature and authentic Andean culture. Located south of Cusco, this trek takes you around the majestic Ausangate Mountain, the highest peak in the region, reaching altitudes of over 5,000 meters (16,400 ft).

During the journey, trekkers cross high mountain passes, colorful valleys, turquoise glacial lakes, and remote Andean communities where traditional lifestyles remain unchanged. One of the highlights of the trek is the visit to stunning lagoons such as Upis, Pucacocha, and Qomercocha, as well as relaxing natural hot springs along the route.

This 5-day trek offers breathtaking landscapes, rich wildlife, and a deep connection with the Andes, making it an unforgettable experience for hikers looking for a true off-the-beaten-path adventure.

01

Day 1: Cusco – Upis –Yana cocha camp

Early in the morning, we pick you up from your hotel in Cusco around 4:30 a.m. and drive for approximately 3 hours to the community of Upis. (4,250 m/13,944 ft),the starting point of our trek.We'll enjoy a tasty breakfast here and meet team of cooks and horsemen who'll join us on our adventure. The hike takes about 3 hours until hot springs of Upis (4,400 m/14,436 ft) here, enjoy our first meal prepared by our talented chef. In the afternoon, we will continue ascending for 2 hours to Arapa pass(4,800mt/15,748ft).At the top of the pass,we will have stunning views of eroded mountains,highland valleys and wonderful view of the Ausangate mountain behind it(6,372 m/20,905 ft), then we descend for 1:30 hour until Yana Qocha(4,570m/14,993ft).In the evening,it'll be time for a tasty dinner and ours first night in the mountains.

Day 2: Hatun Pukaqocha–Abra Puka Pass-Anantapata-Warmisaya-Surineqocha

We will wake you up in the morning with a hot cup of coca tea and then,we will enjoy the nutritious breakfast .After breakfast,we'll go uphill for 2 hours to Puka Pass(4,870 m/15,970 ft).Along the route this morning,you'll be amazed by the stunning views of glaciers and deep green valleys. Once you reach the top,you'll also observe the extended beauty of the Chilca Valley,where llamas and alpacas will be wandering around and grazing quietly. After taking some more photographs,we'll star with a gradual descent for one hour and a half to our lunch spot,cocated in Ananta (4,750 m/15,584 ft).After we continue with an ascent for 2 hours to Warmisaya Pass (4,985m/16,354ft).We only have to descend one hour to Surineqocha,where our night's camp.

Day 3: Surineqocha-Rainbow Mountain-Ausangate Qocha

We will wake you up very early with a hot cup of tea an then breakfast after breakfast we will comtinue 2 hours walk to the Rainbow Mountain(5,100m/16.732ft).Your guide explain in detail why this mountain has such unique colors and why it was only discovered in recent years.Then we will continue for 3 and a half hours to the lunch place which is Ananta. In the afternoon ,we will walk for 3 hours to the third camp,called Ausangate Qocha(4,500m/14,763ft),after a delicious dinner,a peaceful night's rest awaits.

Day 4: Ausangate Qocha – Palomani Pass-Huchuy Pinaya-Qampa camp

After an early breakfast,we'll ascend for around two hours until we reach the Palomani Pass (5,200m/17,060ft),then we'll walk for another hour and a half until we reach the small community of Huchuy Phinaya (4,650 m/15,256 ft),where we can observe local life and herds of llamas and alpacas grazing in the highlands.After we will continue one hour and a half to the camp Qampa (4,700m/15,419ft),after a delicious dinner,a peaceful night's rest awaits.

Day 5: Qampa –Qampa Pass- Pacchanta – Cusco

After another revitalizing breakfast,we'll begin our uphill walk over two and a half hours toward Jampa Pass at (5,070 m/16,634 ft).From there,you'll have breathtaking views of majestic snow-capped mountains.We'll then gradualy descend for approximately four hours until we reach our lunch spot at the Pacchanta (4,600 m/13,451 ft).After lunch, you will have the opportunity to relax and soak in the natural hot springs of Pacchanta.Finally, we board our private transport for the return journey to Cusco
