Journey through an undiscovered land of wild desert landscapes, snow capped peaks, herds of alpaca, and arrive at the ultimate destination – Vinicunca – The “Rainbow Mountain” at 5000 meters above sea level, hidden deep in the Andes.
These multi-coloured beauty sticks out a mile in the Peruvian Andes. The full day trek takes you through a vibrant green valley with an impressive view of the mighty Ausangate mountain towering at a distance.
On this tour you will get a first hand experience on witnessing how the local community spend their daily life and will have an opportunity to interact with them. As you would start getting closer to the iconic Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain, you would start witnessing the first signs of the coloured mineral deposits such as iron, copper, dolomite, sulphur, lime, lead and hematite that formed the mountain.
Our local expert will talk to you on the formation and existence of the Rainbow Mountain, and finally with one last push, you will hike up to the vantage point that would give you a jaw dropping 360 degree view of the stunning landscape that makes this a sacred land in Cusco.
At 0400 AM, we will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco. Then in our private transport, we will embark on a three hours drive. We will be driving you through the South Valley of Cusco to Hanchipaca Community. Here we will be stopping for breakfast, before continuing our drive further to Quesinouno community. This is the base camp of the Rainbow Mountain. Our guide will then brief you about the route and the amount of time you will be spending in each stops along the way up to the summit. You will then start the hike through gentle upward slope trailing behind our guide. It normally takes three hours to reach the summit. On the way up you will walk through the gravel road with herds of Alpacas and Llamas grazing on the sides at a distance you would see the snow-capped peaks of Ausangate Mountain towering and many red coloured mountains. Once at the summit, you will have time to walk around the area and pose for some pictures. You would normally spend 30 minutes to one hour at the summit (depending on your trekking speed and weather conditions). You will then start our trek downhill, back to the point from where you started, it would approximately take two hours to get back. You would stop at Hanchipacha community for lunch before starting your journey back to Cusco. We will be dropping you at Regocijo Square, a block away from Plaza De Armas (main square).
