Overview

The sacred valley of the incas was a very important site to the incas.

The sacred valley of incas is on almost every traveler’s bucket list.Mainly because of its close proximity to machupicchu and cusco.This 100 km,long stretch of the renowned andean valley was the main source of food.

Stretching from Pisac in the South to Machu Picchu in the north, the Sacred Valley is a cornucopia of majestic and steep mountains, ancient ruins, rushing rivers, craft markets, terraced hillsides, good food and native people who value and take care of their homeland.

Please note:you will need your tourist tickrt, in case of not having it,you will be able to buy it at the entrance of the sites.

Chinchero

We will pick up you from your hotel in Cusco at 6:45 a.m.Then we will start a one hour drive towards Chinchero,first stop.Chinchero at the rustic village of chinchero we will exploring the inca ruins,In this charming village, you will see adobe homes, narrow cobbled streets, and people in traditional Peruvian dress. Here, the villagers still practice many Incan traditions and crafts. If you wish, you will see a demonstration of how wool is washed and dyed using native plants and mineral.The inca ruins of chinchero were once more like a country resort of the incan ruler,tupaq yupanqui.It was his idea to build many agriculture terraces and aqueducts most of then are functional even today.Among all sites in the sacred valley ,chinchero has the most fertile soil.Chinchero is renowned for producing quinoa ,potatoes,oca among other vegetables. The main plaza of chinchero houses a beautiful white washed adove church built in 1607 by spanish conquistadors.This church is believed to the built on top of the palace of the inca ruler,tupac yupanqui once stood.After visiting chinchero,we will visit moray.

Moray

Upon arrival ,we will receive a total explanation about the circular shaped agricultural terraces that are the principal attraction here,then will be able to walk around the precinct and take some pictue.Moray is one of the important sites of the sacred valley of incas. These terraces were used to test the growth of crops at different tenperature levels.It is one of the many remains that show advanced the incas were in agricultural techniques.The depth and design of these circular teraces allowed the incas to study and invent new farming techniques.The difference in the tenperature from the ground to the bottom of the terrace is 15 degrees centigrade 27 degrees fahrenheit.We will continue with our next location,maras salt pans.

Maras

After the tour of Moray, you will take a 20 minute bus ride to the salt mines of maras.In maras we will be knowing more about the process for salt extraction, the history and how it serves as the primary income from the most photographed attractions in sacred valley These geometric shaped salt pools of maras have been in use since 1400.salt farmers from the region still practice the traditional method.They harvest salt in these shallow pools through a process of evaporation.A natural spring water is let into these salt pols and which evaporates and leaves behind the crystals of salt .These salt crystals are scraped off without using any modern equipment ,instead it is done manually with rustic tools.Our next stop will be in ollantaytanbo. Then we will follow the beautiful route to Urubamba, the heart of the Sacred Valley, where we will stop for a buffet lunch.

Ollantaytambo

We will continue our scenic journey to the amazing town of ollantaytanbothis place is very popular among travellers that visit machupicchu by train.. Ollantaytambo is a classic Incan city which conserved the traditional Incan urban construction of narrow streets adjacent to flowing streams. Ollantaytanbo was once an administrative centre for the inca empire and also for religious purposes, In the 15th century ,pachacutec built the fortress of ollantaytanboand its popular for its farming terraces and irrigation systems.Eventually after spanich conquest,this fortress that was built for religious purposes turned into a massive battle groud. The inca manco ,who led the battle later withdrew from ollantaytanbo and moved into vilcabanba with an intuition that the spanish would come back more strongly soom after,the spanish troop led by pizzaro conquered ollantaytanbo.We will continue the trip to pisac.

Pisac

Once we arrive in pisac,we will be exploring the ruins,our tour guide will explain to us about this place ,afterwards we will visit the t0wn .The famous handicraft market of pisac sprawls every sundy plenty of travellers and locals arrive to buy the handicrafts and souvenirs from the vendors at the local market or around town.the ruins of pisac are the most beautiful among the valley and sits high up a hill offering breathtaking views from the top.The pisac complex houses a massive ceremonial centre ,a un temple and many other small sites.pisac is one of the sites that you cannot afford to miss if you are visiting the sacred valley After touring the town and the archaeological sites of pisac,we will end our day trip Now, it is time to return to cusco.Once we arrive around 7,00pm we will drop you off at plaza regocijo,which is next to the main square,plaza de armas.
